Frequently Asked Questions

1- Q- I am a Family Kickboxing member already, can I take part?
A- YES! BUT..

Not that anyone thought about abusing this challenge but, to prevent members from simply joining the challenge to get 3 months free of kickboxing, we have applied at 4 to 1 ratio of members VS non members.

What this means is that for every 4 team mates, only one (1) can be regular members at Family Kickboxing.

2- Q- When will the weigh-ins take place?
A- Depending on the Team Level, weigh-ins are either weekly, bi-weekly, or 3 weigh-ins only.

3- Q-Where will the weigh-ins take place?
A- There will be two options: At the teams place of work or at Family Kickboxing. The choice will be up to the team captain and Employer. BUT a team can only have ONE weigh-in location (in terms of work place)... We cannot make 5 stops for one team! If you cannot make the scheduled weigh-in your captain picked, it is your responsibility to stop in at the club and weigh-in!

4- Q- Will my co-workers know my weight?
A- All weights will be kept confidential. Only pounds and percentage lost will be revealed.

5- Q- Who will monitor the weigh-ins?
A- A representative of the event will be in attendance for all weigh-ins. All weights are listed in our system and progress tracked.

6- Q- What if I only have 10 pounds to lose and another contestant has the ability to lose 100 pounds.
A- We will be measuring in percentage giving everyone a fair chance. For example, if contestant 1 weights in at 110 pounds and loses 15 pounds their percentage is roughly 13%. But if contestant is 325 pounds and loses 40 pounds their percentage is roughly 12%, making contestant 1 the winner.

7- Q- How many people per team?
A- We don't want to "restrict" anyone, but we decided to put a minimum of 5 per team, with a max of 20.
If you have more than 20, simply divide the group and create two teams.
If you have less then five, bug a few more family members!

8- Q- What if I am alone?
A- No problem, send us your info and we will add you to the "mixed" team. Don't let a "lack of team" hold you back from reaching your goals!

9- Q- What is my investment to sign up a team?
A- We have worked to create the team fee as low as possible. This event is EXTREMELY time consuming on the part of the volunteers and representatives and, for that reason, we have divided into three levels based on YOUR commitment. Since this is a community event, with the help of our sponsors, the team fees are:

(Generally, companies provide the initial investment required to enter their employee into this event, although individuals can pay their own way.)

All team levels are in the same challenge all together, the difference will be in the personal results!

After looking at the numbers from last year’s weight loss challenge, we have found that there were three levels of weight loss: MAXIMUM, MODERATE, and MINIMUM. (We were happy to see that everyone in the challenge DID lose weight!)

The ones who we labelled as the MAXIMUM amount of weight lost were those who took part in our three aspects of weight loss; Diet/Nutrition, Fitness and Support/accountability.

Level one, the MAXIMUM Weight Loss level, includes all three aspects
.
Those who didn’t lose quite as much were often missing one or more of these aspects.

The MODERATE Weight Loss level includes a scaled back version of the top level. The result being a scaled down version of your goals…

The third level, purely MINIMUM weight loss, without the significant results they were looking for, includes very little of what it takes to reach your goals.

Health and fitness is a decision; choose wisely.  Poor choices are a thing of the past; it is time to choose the right level.

*A team must comprise of one level only .A team cannot be a mixture of different levels. Everyone is to commit to one level and reach their goals as one team.*

10- Q-Where can I work out?
A- Depending on your Team Level (See above question) Family Kickboxing has donated their studio for the entire duration of the event. They have many classes to choose from. See www.familykickboxing.net for class times.

Based on last years stats, the contestants who lost the most weight were those who ATTENDED classes.

11- Q- Can I work out elsewhere, or on my own?
A- You are more than welcome to work out at any facility you prefer and in any safe manner (sports, jogging, lifting weights)

12- Q- If my team level does not include the Family Kickboxing membership, can I still attend Family Kickboxing?
A-  Family Kickboxing does offer Two Free Weeks for everyone, plus you are encouraged to sign up for a membership.

13- Q- How will the winners be decided?
A- There will be two main grand prizes. 1- The individual who loses the highest percentage. 2- The team who as a group loses the highest percentage. There will also be many secondary prizes.

14- Q- What do I need to attend Family Kickboxing?
A- We have boxing gloves ranging from $20 to a mortgage payment! Simply wear comfortable clothing and have a blast!

15- Q- What if I have no experience with healthy eating?
A- The event website will have healthy eating tips, healthy meal plans, and a nutritionist present to help answer some of your questions.

New Questions:

16- Q-What times are weigh ins? I work in a small company and getting out during business hours is impossible, I would need to weigh in either weekends or evenings.
A- Generally, weigh-ins take place either at your place of work, eliminating the need to take time away from the office, or at a pre-scheduled time at Family kickboxing.

The weigh-ins take only a moment, a representative will be their at a specified time with a scale, take note and be gone before you know it!

Should this not work, you can schedule a time to weigh-in at Family Kickboxing during the evenings.

17- Q- Are weigh ins private?
A- The weigh-ins are private. The public, your coworkers, team mates, friends, family.. will not know your weight. The numbers we collect are confidential. All that is ever published is the percentage lost. (i.e.: Jane Doe lost 5% of her total body weight).

18- Q- What can I wear at Family Kickboxing?
A- Family Kickboxing has a club uniform consisting of a t-shirt and pants. The shirt is $20 and they have two types of pants, a pair at $39 and a pair at $89 (a very high quality pant)

We will also be taking order for Team Shirts that can be worn at Family Kickboxing.

We have managed to arrange a deal for the T-shirts at an amazing $19 a shirt. Upon signing up a team orders can be placed.

19- Q-What if a team member misses a weigh-on?
A- If a team member misses a weigh-in, the weight of their preevious weigh-in will be inputted for that week. (registering no change for that person.
Upon the team mates return, we will update the new change.

The team with a missing member CAN still win for "most lost this week" for the week with the missing member because it would be the same as a member not changing in weight.

BUT

That team CANNOT win for "most weight lost this week" for the week of the missing members return because their weight adjustment would be for that week and the week they missed, not just the week the prize is for.

20- Q - In my team of 5, I will be the only one doing the MAXIMUM eight loss. I know that I still could win the individual weekly prizes, but if I am the only one in my team doing the weekly weigh in, it doesn't seem very representative of the whole team. So would we still qualify for the weekly team prize if I am the only person on the team doing the weekly weigh-ins?

A - A team must consist of only ONE level. All team members must commit to the teams success as a group. We have found the maximum impact is the WEEKLY weigh-in.  $20 more, or one dollar and 66 cents a weigh-in, makes the difference between reaching your goals or not. Let's face it, we all need someone checking in on us each week and keeping us accountable otherwise we wouldn't need to lose a few pounds! For your success, I strongly urge everyone to reach for the sky and get weighed in each week. Yes, it can be "nerve racking" but we guarantee it works.
